2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL 550 Roadster 2D

2007 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 Roadster for Sale in Rochester, NY. A V8 Grand Tourer Made for Top-Down Driving.

There is something special about a Mercedes-Benz SL from this era. This 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 combines the proportions of a classic two-seat roadster with a 5.5-liter V8, rear-wheel drive, and a power retractable hardtop that transforms it from a comfortable coupe into an open-air convertible.

With just 53,102 miles, this SL 550 has the kind of mileage that makes it especially interesting for a nearly 20-year-old luxury roadster. The V8 produces 382 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, while active suspension and driver-adjustable ride control help give the SL the combination of comfort and performance that defined Mercedes-Benz grand touring cars of this period.

A Proper Mercedes-Benz Roadster

The SL has always occupied an interesting place in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. It is not simply a convertible version of a sedan. It was designed from the beginning as a two-seat luxury grand tourer, and you can see that in this SL 550's long hood, low seating position, staggered 18-inch wheels, and compact proportions.

The power retractable hardtop is an important part of the experience. With the roof raised, you get the enclosed feel and clean profile of a hardtop coupe. Put it down, and the SL becomes the V8-powered roadster it was meant to be.

Xenon headlights, fog lights, integrated mirror turn signals, and aluminum alloy wheels complete a design that has aged remarkably well.

At Universal Imports in Rochester, NY

This 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 Roadster is available at Universal Imports in Rochester, NY. For someone searching for a used Mercedes-Benz convertible in Rochester, Pittsford, Fairport, Webster, or elsewhere in Western New York, this is a very different proposition from a typical modern luxury car.

It is a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive Mercedes with a naturally aspirated V8 and a folding hardtop—an increasingly uncommon combination.

Performance and Driving Experience

The 5.5-liter V8 is the centerpiece of the SL 550, producing 382 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission.

This SL also features active suspension with electronic suspension control and driver-adjustable ride control. Rather than making the car uncompromisingly firm, the system is designed around the SL's grand-touring personality: comfortable enough to cover distance while still giving the driver a more engaging experience when the road gets interesting.

Stability control, traction control, four-wheel ABS, and braking assist complement the rear-wheel-drive platform.

Inside the SL 550

The cabin reflects the SL's role as a luxury grand tourer rather than a stripped-down sports car. Leather covers not only the seats but also the dashboard, doors, center console, steering wheel, and shift knob, with wood trim adding the traditional Mercedes-Benz luxury element.

Both occupants get heated 12-way power seats, and the memory system extends beyond the driver's seat to the passenger seat, steering wheel, and side mirrors. Dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming mirror, power steering wheel adjustment, and power easy-entry functions make the cabin comfortable without taking away from its driver-focused two-seat layout.

The technology also provides an interesting snapshot of a high-end Mercedes from 2007. DVD navigation, Bose 5.1 surround sound, Bluetooth, SiriusXM capability, a six-disc CD changer, eight speakers, and a dedicated subwoofer were substantial equipment for the period.
